Helicoverpa armigera nucleo polyhedro virus (HaNPV) is a specialized microbial pesticide that effectively controls cotton helicoverpa armigera. When sprayed on crops and ingested by pests, the virus particles replicate and multiply within the pest's body, spreading rapidly throughout all tissues. This process causes severe tissue consumption, leading to cessation of feeding and movement, sub-lethal effects, and eventual death by dehydration. The pesticide also affects hatching larvae, which perish after consuming virus-contaminated egg shells. Additionally, virus particles continue to spread to subsequent generations and other pests through body fluids and feces, providing long-term field pest control.
