Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) has been utilized in pest control for over a century, establishing itself as the most extensively researched, developed, and widely applied microbial insecticide. Bt operates through its strain's production of two toxin types: endotoxins (parasporal crystals) and exotoxins, which inhibit pest feeding. This leads to pest mortality through starvation, cell wall rupture, blood sepsis, and neurotoxicity.
Bacillus thuringiensis var kurstaki (Btk) is a naturally occurring soil bacterium particularly effective against gypsy moths, cabbage loopers, tomato hornworms, and other leaf-eating worms on trees, shrubs, and vegetables. Optimal results are achieved when applied during the 1st and 2nd instar stages. As a stomach toxin, Btk requires ingestion by the insect while remaining harmless to humans, animals, and beneficial insects.
- Broad-spectrum, high-efficiency bio-pesticide with stomach poison action
- Demonstrates excellent control against various pests and resistant strains
- Specifically targets Lepidoptera, Diptera, and Coleoptera pests
